As you know the University of Kentucky Wildcat men’s basketball team are looking for a new coach. Former coach Billie Gilispie was let go bu the team not to long ago. They have just replaced that position with former University of Memphis head coach John Calipari. The team signed him to an enormous deal of 8 years and 31.65 million dollars. This is one of the biggest contracts in NCAA basket ball history. This makes John the highest paid basketball coach today, and top five highest paid coaches in the nation, in any sport. I hope that he can full-fill this highly paid offer and bring home some wins for the UK basketball team. If not this could end up being one of the biggest losses for the university.
Kentucky has just fired head basketball coach Billy Gilispie. After onlu two years he is out as the UK head coach. Gilispie lead the team to one NCAA apperance in his first year but lost to Marquette in the first round. This year the wildcat team fell just short of the tourny and ended up in the much less prestigious NIT tournament. Even after a 23 win season the kentucky program wanted nothing more to do with him. There are many canidates for the job, with UK’s great prestige and tradition it would be a job anyone good coach would want. It is only a matter of time and we will see who the next Wildcat team will be lead by.
The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team has started and finished the end of their seaosn with their SouthEastern Conference play. They started off hot with five consecutive wins over teams like Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Georgia. Where against Tennessee Jodie Meeks scored 54 points in the win. The most by any Wildcat and the most at Tennessee’s Thompson-Boling arena. Then with a dissapointing three game losing streak to 3 teams that in my opinion they should not have lost to. Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Miss. State were the three loses. With the team on the bubble we need wins to help our chances of keeping the NCAA tournament streak of 14 years alive. But with a 4 game losing skid to end the season the tournament seems like a far out reach unless the team can pull off something in the SEC tournament.
We are a few weeks into the basketball season and the wildcats are off to a pretty good start. With the end of of the December at an end the University of Kentucky Wildcats have an 11-3 record. This is a much better start than predicted but the team has only really come in contact with only 2 ranked teams and both have resulted in losses. TO both number 1 ranked North Carolina and number 22 ranked University of Miami. But with losses to Virginia Military College the Wildcats cant be losing to thosekind of teams. With Jodie Meeks and Pat Patterson leading the team in most every offensive categories the wildcats should be in for a good year. With arch rival Louisville as there next game it should be interesting to see what happens in that in state rivalry.
The Kentucky Wildcats are about to start their 2009 basketball campaign. They are highly favored to make a run for the SEC championship. With all 5 returning starters coming back this year this should be a very productive season for the wildcats. Stars like Jodie Meek a junior and Pat Patterson a sophmore leading the squad the wildcats are looking to have another NCAA turnament apperance. Jodie Meeks is coming off a broken pelvis last year as he will be looking to prove that he is the player the many people thought he was after his freshman year. Kentucky is very lucky to get Pat Patterson back after a great freshman campaign he is coming back for another year at Kentucky. With experienced players like Perry Stevenson at the forward and Micheal Porter handiling the ball at the point guard position it should be a very experienced line up. Then with additions like Deandre Ligins a top 50 recruit in the nation he has shown a lot of potential for this year.
The recruiting season has just come to an end and the Wildcat football team has done fairly well for themselves. They just recruited an ESPN top 150 player in Ryan Mossaswski. I quarterback from Frisco Texas. He will be a good addition to the already talented uk QB squad. Also additions from four star definsive ends and from four star wide recivers. This year will be a developing year for the wildcat football team. With Mike kartline taking the rains back as the starting qb and pat cobb back out to become our leading receiver. I dont think that the team will be contending for a national championship this year but I do think that anything but a seven or eight win season would be unacceptable.
